Sunday Sketch and a few other Challenges

This is my last project for PWCO today.  I am in need of a little creative break.  Summer is a time for my family and kiddos.  You may notice over the next few months that my blog will be a bit quieter and when I do post it may be with a bit of scrapbooking.  My daughter has expressed an interest and I have missed doing it myself. I will be back in full force once the summer is over.  Who knows.  I'm an early bird so I may be posting just as much.  The good thing is that I have that option.  I'm lucky!

So onto the sketch and project. The sketch is a square card with a flower. I used another fan shaped flower from my tutorial over at DCRU yesterday.  (you have to scroll down a bit...long tutorial:). I made a BIGGER flower for this card though.  The paper is by MME Beloved Collection.  I really love that I can use "Valentine's" paper year round.  I created the paper roses using Coredinations Whitewash Collection.  I really need to do more with this paper.  It's fun!  I also created some tulle roses on the side with a jeweled center.  Remember that you can click on the photos for a closer look.  My handle is tulle and a natural fiber ribbon that I have had forEVER!  You can find directions for the origami bag HERE.  You can watch an animation (recommended) or just use the printable diagram sheet. I decided to fold the handles down from the original pattern and make my own.  I also added ScorTape to keep my bag together.  My origami stinks!  Tape is my friend.

This is for the 3D challenge over at PCP this week.  The Pink Elephant Challenge is to use Orange.  Do you think Peach counts?  I'm also stretching it a bit to include in the Pile It On challenge~ Eat your veggies.  Let me 'splain....You buy veggies at a Farmer's Market and they put it in a paper bag...I used a paper bag.  I also used a button from the GARDEN VARIETY Collection.  A peach is a fruit...is that close?????

Here's a simple tutorial on the paper roses.

You will need:
Scissors
Glue Gun
a Square-ish section of your choice of paper

Step 1.  Cut your paper (see mine isn't perfectly square) into a spiral starting on the outside and working in.  Don't worry about it being perfect.  You can also used decorative edged scissors for a different take.

Step 2.  See how the paper spirals.  In the center you should leave a small, circular chunk of paper.  This will be the base of your flower and where you will glue it together.  Also cut the excess edge away.  See enlarged photo for wording and arrow. (Click on pic)

 Step 3. Start from the outer edge rolling the paper up into a somewhat tight spiral.  I wanted the peach to be the color that I saw so I flipped it over and started to roll in.  On my project I made one with the orange showing predominantly and one with the whitewash showing. 

Step 4.  Roll all the way to the end.  Until you get to that circular chunk of paper.

Step 5.  Now don't be scared, but let go of your rolled flower just a bit so that it can unravel some.  I press down on the center so it doesn't unravel too much.  This will give it more of a rose appearance.  I then put hot glue directly on the bottom part of the center.  A glob!   Stick it down on that chunky circle and press down from the top to ensure that it holds in place.  I use a LOW TEMP glue gun.  My fingers thank me for it:)

BTW... My largest flower uses a paper cut to these dimensions.... 4 x 3 3/4.  Why not 4x4?  Because my paper measured 4x 7 1/2.  I wasn't going to cut another:)  Try out different sizes and have fun!

Rain or Shine

Today it's time for the PWCO Sunday Sketch.  I had to add my own little twist to the sketch.  I just kept thinking about rainbows and the Rachelle Ann Miller Puddles of Fun was the perfect stamp to use.  This was a really quick card except for those Stickles.  WOW!  I swear I waited an hour for them to dry and then I just decided to take the picture anyways:)  For more details on this sketch and my card please check out the PWCO blog.

Go Ahead....Wish

Happy Sunday!  Sundays mean it's time for another sketch.  Please check out the PaperWorks Blog for the sketch and to play along.

One thing I have to say is that I usually don't follow a sketch to a tee.  I like to look and think outside the box a little bit.  Instead of using 3 ovals I used one ( Oval Nestabilities) and then added some pink dew drops for my other two "ovals."  I also turned the sketch on the side.  I think that sketches are a great springboard for creativity.  I like to add my twist on it usually.  I really am a rule follower except when it come to sketches.  I'd love to see your take on things.
A few details to my card.  The butterflies are by Basic Grey and Peggy has them on sale HERE.  I embossed them with brown embossing powder onto vellum card stock.  I then used this Taffy Smooch to color in the back.  That gives it a stained glass look.  Did you know that you can apply Smooch right to your stamp and use it like ink?  I just found that out.  My sentiment is done that way.  I love the look.  The paper's are by Bo Bunny's Love Bandit Collection and I used a scrap of green DP to coordinate with it.  Please excuse my wonky stitching.  Sewing is not my best skill.

RAM Birthday

It's another Free For All Day over at PaperWorks Co Blog.  I used one of the new Rachelle Ann Miller images called Birthday Parade. I have a lot of boy birthday cards to make since I have so many nephews.  I'm heading to Michigan this weekend and I'm taking all the birthday gifts with me.  This card uses the CPS sketch for this week.  I also used some paper by MME.  I had to add a bit of bling even though it supposed to be for a boy.  My star punch is covered in diamond stickles and my balloons have Diamond Glaze over them as well.


I also wanted to share a picture of my son's goodie bags from his sleepover last weekend.  I made them some bookmarks using the Tinheart Collection.  His theme for his birthday was Iron Man.  I figured that these Robots could work as a great VINTAGE replica of Iron Man:)

I used some Coordinations paper,embossed it with a Star EF  and then sanded the top.  These bookmarks  are also magnetic and I think the boys really liked them.

We can't wait for the new Iron Man movie:)

I decided to make another box perfect for holding party favor goodies or a small birthday gift.  I used some of the new Cosmo Cricket Garden Party Collection and some coordinating Prism papers .

I have one more project to share using this cute stamp, "Puddles of Fun."

I think this is the cutest stamp.  I just love that ducky on the left "splashing" his foot in the puddle.  Looks just like something my kiddos would do:)  I used some new paper I got by  DCWV and sewed some wonky stitched circles.  I also used some dew drops to resemble water droplets.  I love this bright, cheery card.

Now back to the business at hand.  Today is my day over at the PaperWorks Blog.  I decided to do a quick little project using just papers and Nestabilities.  I love the new dies they came out with this spring.  I used some yellow paper and the new large scalloped circles to make my flower on this card.

After I cut 2 different sizes out I simply bent and crimped along the edges.  It's all very technical you see:)  I added a button that coordinates with the Garden Variety papers by Cosmo Cricket.  My circle is sewn with embroidery floss and I added that polka dotted ribbon to resemble leaves...kinda.  You can find that ribbon here.  The great thing about it is that it's dotted on BOTH sides.

Don't forget that FRIDAY is the BIG DAY.  It's the first ever blog hop for PaperWorks Co. and this release is HUGE.  I have been having so much fun creating with these stamps.  They are the cutest!  Just wait.  I'm bursting to show you:)

Today I have a few projects to finish up and in honor of EARTH DAY tomorrow I am planting 3 grape vines and 2 raspberry bushes.  Oh how the country girl in me longs to create that setting at my house in town.  My family has become quite addicted to homemade jam.  Are you doing anything special for Earth Day?

Geared Up For Books

Mornining All!


Today I have a quick post for you.  It's my day on the PWCO blog and it's a Free For All. That means I can create anything I want.  I had a project all made and then saw that this week's Technique Challenge was to make a bookmark.  My son has just recently discovered that reading can be fun.  It is a really difficult subject for him at school and he makes me so proud because he works really hard at improving.  He also LOVES these robots from The Tinheart Collection.  He has made several cards of his own with them.  So, I decided to hold off on my other project and make this bookmark for him.  It's pretty basic, but you can't get too frilly with a BOY bookmark.  It also has to be able to fit in the book, so that kind of limits embellishments too.  I used the Lil' Robots Collection that goes so perfectly with these stamps.

My bookmark is magnetic.  I used those magnetic snaps by Basic Grey.  That way the bookmark snaps shut right around the page he is on.  I know he is going to think that is SOOOO COOL:)

 Pretty plain, huh?  I ran out of time so I'll have to finish the inside up this week.  Now, I do want to say that the adhesive that BG uses on these things stinks.  So I just add a little Crystal Effects underneath and those snaps stay put.

Before I forget, next week is going to be a HUGE stamp release over at PWCO.  Seriously, it's awesome!

Swinging By

I finally have a card to share today!  Today is my day over on the Paper Works Co blog.  They have a new release coming up this month and I'm sooo excited about it.  Are you interested in checking out the images?
 Well Peggy is doing things a bit differently this release.  Please check out the blog for all the details on a fun game that we will be playing up until the release.  I'm pretty sure that you are going to LOVE this release.

Allllllrighty, my card today uses leftover paper from last months card kit, as well as, some leftover MME paper.  I just love it when a double sided themed paper can be used year round.  The yellow dotted paper is from the valentine themed Beloved Collection.  It's called," Sweet Hearts."  The brown dotted is from the Animal Stackers Collection and can be found HERE.  Isn't that brown ric rac the cutest?  It't the perfect touch for a masculine type card I think.  My idea for the limb came from the last issue of Paper Crafts magazine.  I used a real twig...FRESH~ that's important.....and just cut out some leaves from my stash of Prism paper.  My little monkey is Mikey and he is part of the Jungle Jesters Collection complete with a set of sentiments.  The bundle is HERE.  I made this for yet another nephew.  He likes to climb so I think he might be a monkey.  I'm sure his momma thinks that too.

I made this card using the Sweet Sunday Sketch and will also enter it into The Pink Elephant Challenge 61 which is nature.

I really hope to have another card to show you tomorrow.  We shall see.  This week is not mine.  Spring Break and we have been doing something together each day.  Nothing that fun, just busy.  Hoping the rain holds off today so we can go to the park.  I have a house full of kids today.

Back with a March Kit Card

I'm back today with a card using PaperWorks Co's March Card Kit.  This is a great kit to use for all those boy cards you might be needing.  I have many "little boy" birthdays coming up and my card today is for another nephew.  The  stamps used on this card are the newly released Tinheart Collection.  This is a really cute set of robots and it comes in a sturdy metal case for easy storage.  I love that.

Robotic Love

 

This is the card I made for PaperWorks Co.'s new release of The Tinheart Collection.  Make sure you check out all the cute little robots.  They are so adorable.  I made this to give to my daughter while I am away from her.  Inside it says, " I love you THIS much.  I love you to the moon and back!"

PaperWorks Co. and the NEW March Card Kit

Here is a card I made using the new March Card kit.  This kit is so sweet and just reminds me of boys and/or babies.  Included are a bunch of papers by 3 Bugs In A Rug called, Animal Stackers.  The cute images made this card come together so quickly.  Please disregard the smudge of my wording at the top.  Running short on time this week so I couldn't start over.  Handmade....it is handmade.  That's what I have to tell myself.  It's funny how I am not anal about anything in my life except when I make cards.  Hmmm.  Don't forget to pop on over to the PaperWorks Co store and check out the new kit.  Also, make sure you stop by the blog and leave a few comments.  Peggy loves that and she sometimes picks someone to win a free stamp just for commenting!

The February Kit is SWEET

 

Today is my last project using the February Kit.  This card came together so quickly.  I was completely inspired by the cover of the PaperCrafts magazine.  All my supplies except the brown satin ribbon and embroidery floss came in the kit.  I just love the fun designs and colors on the all the  papers.  Head on over to the store to get this kit.  It's your last chance before the new March kit becomes available.

It's Another February Kit Card

  Saturday....ALREADY?!?!?!    Wow!  I'm looking forward to Monday this week.  Provided my kids actually go to school on that day:)  Love them, but I need a little uninterrupted time.  I hope you are enjoying your Saturday.

  Have you  seen the February Kit over at PaperWorks Co this month?  It is really the cutest.  I've been having so much fun with it.  I love this dotted paper that comes in the kit.  I used a set by Basic Grey for the butterflies and colored them with Copics.  I added a bit of glimmer by tracing over them with a Spica Glitter pen.  The shimmer is so subtle that it's hard to see in the photo.  This kit also comes with some white prima flowers that are so easy to color with copics or any marker of your choice.  That way your flower always coordinates with your project.  I also tried something new to me.....dew drops.  Those are in the kit too.  I think dew drops are a great way to add a bit of detail for when a card just needs a little somethin':)  My sentiment comes from a new Verve set.  I stamped that in Choc Chip Craft Ink. 

Ohh...chocolate...how I miss you so......  I gave up chocolate for Lent and think I may have to live vicariously through my chocolate chip ink pad.  If only it smelled like chocolate.  What a wonderful world it would be:)

Back to reality...you only have until the end of the month to get this kit so hurry up already.  It's only 11.99!
