IN With The OLD...Out With The New


Happy Stamptacular Sunday!  Wow!  I've been saying that for almost a year and today will be my last time saying it.  At least as a design team member.  It's a bit of a sad day for me.  I will miss being a part of this great group and all the fun challenges that Priscilla creates.  I'm still going to participate when I can though.
Today the challenge is to ...

Create a project that replicates"The Good Old Days". This could be something that looks vintage or includes something that just reminds you of something from many years ago when you see it.

 My project today is something that just kind of fell together.  I had these gorgeous Cosmo Cricket papers sitting on my desk looking very vintage ( gingham makes me think vintage?) and these crochet flowers that were in a MME kit that I bought on clearance.  I immediately wanted to use this shaker box template by PTI.  Shaker boxes make me think of the olden days too.

Of course I had to grunge everything up with my new favorite ink...Antique Linen distress ink.
I also used a quote out of a friendship book that I got at Goodwill for my card. I did a bit of stitching and distressing to that as well.  My yellow flower was made using a scallop circle punch.  I wish I could find the tutorial on that.  It was NOT my idea, but if I can't find the tutorial I may do one myself.  It's so easy!  I layered a crochet flower on top of that and secured it with an old pearl earring that has lost it's mate:)

I love the PTI templates.  For $5 you will get a template for 3 different sized boxes plus 5 different ideas.  My one recommendation when using these templates (especially this one) is to do a "dry run."  I always find out that things come together differently than I thought or I should have put my adhesive here...etc.  After cutting all this stuff out it's a bit disheartening to ruin it because you adhesive is in the wrong place or things didn't line up correctly.  But the result is so beautiful that I will definitely be making more of these.  My daughter has asked for one.  She and my son are my biggest fans.  LOVE THEM!
A few more details about this.  I used an image that I got from one of our sponsors:  Papirloftet.  I also cut out some of the text from that same friendship book and stamped and distressed  it as well.  Nothing says vintage like lace.  I'm really loving the look of lace lately.  Try to say THAT 10 times fast:)

The February Kit is SWEET

 

Today is my last project using the February Kit.  This card came together so quickly.  I was completely inspired by the cover of the PaperCrafts magazine.  All my supplies except the brown satin ribbon and embroidery floss came in the kit.  I just love the fun designs and colors on the all the  papers.  Head on over to the store to get this kit.  It's your last chance before the new March kit becomes available.

Happy Birthday!

First I just want to thank everyone for the such wonderful comments on my blog yesterday.  That means so much to me.  Speaking of comments, I had to turn on my comment moderator because I have been getting a lot of spam and inappropriate stuff in my comments section.  PLEASE!  No one look at the nude photos of some chick who left her blog address in my post a few days ago.  I mean really!  I'm confused.  She stumbled upon my blog HOW????  Then decides that I must surely want to see HER blog because papercrafting and nudity have SO much in common.
I say all that and then present to you the birthday card for my hubby that falls into the challenge of Naughty or Nice From Think Ink Tuesday .

 
 I chose Naughty and I'm not going to say why.  If you look at my card closely you can figure it out I'm sure.
This is usually a G rated show here so allow me a little leeway and I promise no more nude blog comments will squeak through.

I am also entering this into this week's Die Cuts R Us.  We were to use Valentine leftovers.  That coupon is from a group of little vintage cards called Calling Cards and they are made by Tattered Angels. The trick with the leftovers is to make a card that ISN'T a valentine.  Well, mine is a birthday card and since they are celebrating Birthdays over at ABC Design Blog I will be entering this in that challenge as well.

I do have another love in my life at the moment.  It's Cosmo.  Cosmo Cricket that is....  Oh I am in love with all their papers.  I just love the way they smell, feel, and look.  Plus the different lines usually can coordinate together.  I used 2 lines on my card today....The Early Bird Collection and Lil Man.

I just wanted to quickly share a picture of my daughter.  She and I decorated cupcakes for my husband's birthday.  Do you remember me telling you my dirty little secret about just eating scoopfuls of frosting???  I LOVE frosting.

Always On My Mind



  

Here is a Whimsy Creation I made this week.  I love frogs.  I think THIS ONE is so sweet.  Doesn't he just look like he is thinking about someone so fondly?
I used the colors from this weeks Color Throwdown: Chocolate Chip, Pink and Green.  I also used the sketch over at Splitcoast.  Allow me creative liberties on that though.  I have really been trying to use up my scraps.  Therefore, I can't really tell you where the paper I used comes from.  I know the pink is from The Digichick and the leaves are a card stock vellum.  My flower was made by using various sized circle punches.  I cut them out, distressed with a distressing tool and ink.  I really wish I could sew a circle.  I'm going to work on that.  Please check out this creation, as well as, many others over at the Whimsy Inspiration blog.

Thank You for the Difference

I know that I've been really quiet this week.  It's been very hectic in my life at the moment.  I have many things to share today.  It's actually a bit of an emotional week for me.

A few weeks ago I got a call from my dad.  Normally a conversation with my dad is full of fun and laughter.  However, this was not one of those calls.  My dad informed me that he has prostate cancer and will be undergoing surgery next week.  While I believe the prognosis is good I am asking that you all please pray for my dad.  While this is all very difficult,  it is compounded by the fact that his wife has Alzheimer's and he is the one that takes care of her.  Now he needs someone to take care of both of them for a few weeks.  I am so lucky to have a wonderful husband ( who has a wonderful boss) who is willing to take time off work to be a Stay at Home Dad for a few weeks.  I will be leaving next Wednesday to go stay with my dad for two weeks to take care of him, as well as, his wife.  You can say a prayer for me too please!  I'm not sure I will be that great of a nurse, but I'm all he's got at this point.  So, he'll just have to suck it  up...LOL.  My dad is a very positive, upbeat person.  He has a great attitude towards all of this.  My quote this week at the top of my blog is in his honor:)

  Also, this is the first time I have ever been away from my kids for so long.  I think we will all need quite a few prayers over the next few weeks.  I am the one constant in my kids' lives.  I'm ALWAYS here. (A curse as well as a blessing:)  My hubby will do a fabulous job I know, but it will still be hard on everyone.  So prayers all the way around, ok?  Thanks!

I have a lot on my plate at the moment.  Being on THREE design teams and trying to get my sister's wedding invitations done before I go has been a bit stressful.  I am so fortunate to work with amazing people who have given me permission to do what I can and not stress.  I hate not fulfilling commitments.  I had to make a difficult decision.  I have decided to step down as a Design Team member for Stamptacular Sunday Challenge.  This Sunday will be my last project with them.  I am so thankful to Priscilla for understanding and being so kind.  My card today is for her.

 I owe a lot to Priscilla.  She is the first person to ever take a chance on me as  a designer.  I have grown so much in my crafting skills in the last year and I attribute most of that to her challenge blog.  It is truly one of the greatest ones out there.  You never know from week to week what challenge she has thought up.  I have stepped outside of my comfort zone many times using her challenges.  Just knowing her has helped me grow as a person.  I think she is AMAZING!  When I'm having a bad day or week I think about her and her strength to push on and just get things done.  To look at the bright side.  If she can go through all the things that have come her way and still keep a positive attitude than how can I NOT do the same.  If you are reading my blog for the first time you can read about Priscilla HERE.  She is a wonderful, inspiring person.  How blessed I am to" know" her and even better, to be inspired by her.

I will have several posts over the next few days and then a few pre scheduled posts for Whimsy stamps while I am away.  I am actually contributing to one of the challenges on the NEW Whimsy Inspirations blog.  This is  a challenge that is dear to my heart.  Please stay tuned for that.

My card today uses the Mojo Monday Sketch 127 and I got my color inspirations from the Curtain Call Color Challenge.

I realized as I was putting this up that I forgot to add the Kraft card stock to the back of my image.  So let's just pretend that this is all adhered to a Kraft base, shall we?:D  I have to pretend quite a bit in my life.  I'd love to pretend that my sister's wedding invitations are done, but that's a reality that's SLAPPING me right in the face.  My supplies have STILL not arrived.  Wish me luck with that please!

Going In Circles

That's an appropriate title for how my life is at times....I travel in a lot of circles.  I have personally diagnosed myself as having a bit of ADD. ( OK...honestly my hubby has hinted at it)  I start one project but get sidetracked and move to another then eventually get back to the original thing that I started.  The fortunate thing is that I LOVE circles...and dots.  Ovals are great too.  Besides.... going in circles can be fun.  Just look at what a fun card a bunch of circles produced....



  This card just  makes me really  happy.  I love the colors.  I love that it says, "I love U."  I love that polka dot ribbon.  I love the distressing, paper piercing and all those little shingled circles as a border.  I love the swiss dots embossed circles and I love that the heart in the center has tiny circles inside it.  It's stamped on CHOCOLATE chip paper and it looks like a Slow Poke candy.  Can you tell how much I miss chocolate:(????   I love chocolate and think anything brown should now just be called chocolate instead of brown.  That is a much better title.   Example: "Look at my new brown ( said in my most boring voice) handbag." Or  "Hey!  Look at my new CHOCOLATE handbag!"  Imagine a bag FULL of chocolate!

Oh Lord!  How many more days til Easter???!!!!

Anyways....back to the circles and card.  Sorry!

It's Another February Kit Card

  Saturday....ALREADY?!?!?!    Wow!  I'm looking forward to Monday this week.  Provided my kids actually go to school on that day:)  Love them, but I need a little uninterrupted time.  I hope you are enjoying your Saturday.



  Have you  seen the February Kit over at PaperWorks Co this month?  It is really the cutest.  I've been having so much fun with it.  I love this dotted paper that comes in the kit.  I used a set by Basic Grey for the butterflies and colored them with Copics.  I added a bit of glimmer by tracing over them with a Spica Glitter pen.  The shimmer is so subtle that it's hard to see in the photo.  This kit also comes with some white prima flowers that are so easy to color with copics or any marker of your choice.  That way your flower always coordinates with your project.  I also tried something new to me.....dew drops.  Those are in the kit too.  I think dew drops are a great way to add a bit of detail for when a card just needs a little somethin':)  My sentiment comes from a new Verve set.  I stamped that in Choc Chip Craft Ink. 

Ohh...chocolate...how I miss you so......  I gave up chocolate for Lent and think I may have to live vicariously through my chocolate chip ink pad.  If only it smelled like chocolate.  What a wonderful world it would be:)

Grateful Heart

 

It's a bright and cheery day here and I've got a bright and cheery card.  This is for several challenges today.
My inspiration comes from the Tuesday Trigger over at Moxie Fab.  I've always wanted to participate in that and never make the deadline.  So glad I did today.  This is also for the Die Cuts R Us challenge to not use DP.  Over at The Pink Elephant the focus is on Ribbon.  I've got lots of that going on with this card.  I have to say that lately I've been making a lot of cards that are a little out of my typical style.  That's good.  I like challenging myself and stepping out of my normal bounds.  However, this card felt really good to make.  Like a breath of fresh air.  Ahhh!  Now this is my normal style.  Actually, over the next few days I will have several cards that "feel" like me.  Do you know what I mean?

I made this card for my son's teacher.  We have been going through a lot of testing to try and figure out what it is that makes things more difficult for him to learn.  She has been so amazing through it all.   She really "gets" that something is a little off.  We still haven't figured it out, but we are working on it.  She is so wonderful at building him up and praising him.  She makes sure he is getting the extra help he needs.  He is an amazing little boy and works so hard.  She tells me often what a wonderful little boy he is and how proud we should be of him.  I know that, but I appreciate her taking the time to tell me.  I appreciate all she has done and continues to do for him.  I don't think people always take the time to really thank the ones who spend so much time educating our kids.   I am just so grateful that my son has her this year.

Weird Card

I have a weird card to post.  It just goes with my weird day... make that weird WEEK.  I think I got a bit too carried away with the crepe paper.  Should have stopped at the flower.  I need to learn a bit of restraint some days.  I think this card looks like a 1980's bridal shower gone bad:)  I can remember as a kid helping family make those GIANT crepe paper flowers for bridal and baby showers.  Now I don't think this card is that bad.  It just amazes me that after I make a card I can look at it and then think....hmmm....not how I pictured it in my head.....  This happens A LOT.

  I got my flower inspiration from this tutorial here.  Admittedly, mine didn't come together as easily as hers. If I had made the tutorial it would have been  censored.  Too much ripping, thread breaking and cursing going on:)  Anyways, using this vintage button as my center made me happy.  I used the sketch from EBTKS and will enter this into the Die Cuts R Us challenge to use NO DP.  They may say NO CP ( crepe paper) after this card too:)

  Well, my post is late today because we have had no power.  We had our electrical box switched out for something MUCH safer.  This after a week of having many different children at my house.   Because of the snow and President's Day my kids have been home A LOT.  We have had MANY friends over.  No electricty equals (Ahhh) the sound of silence.  However, no electricity also means no heat, no music, no computer, no CRAFTING.  What a BORING day.  I have a billion things to do and couldn't do any.  I wouldn't make it as a pioneer woman.  One thing I did have time to do was take pictures of my daughter's room.  It was a bit difficult because I only have one lens for my SLR camera.  I can't pan out.  Now I still have a few things to do in there, but let's imagine it's done shall we?????

 
This is my daughter's bed.  It is sideways against her wall to resemble a couch.  Believe it or not I need to make 2 more pillows.  Have you ever seen Along Came Polly?  Polly ( Jennifer Aniston) points out how much time people waste taking off and putting pillows back on their beds each day.  I think of this whenever I see my daughter's bed now.  But she does it and loves it....I think.


Here bed is flanked on each side by one of  these cubed bookeshelves.  Everything is from Ikea.  We completely stole the idea from a room they had on display.  Just changed out a few things.  Also, her bed sits on the floor...no frame.  Isn't that super cool...or super cheap depending on your point of view.  Hey, $50 bucks is $50 bucks:)



This is her new dresser and super ROCKIN' mirror.  I love that mirror.  It's from Target and hangs by a rod and two wires.   That's me in there:)



This is my daughter's giant window.  We took a third shelving unit and turned it on it's side to create a window seat for her.  She has plenty of room to add more books underneath.  I am in the process of making a cushion to go on top of it.  Sorry the picture is so bad.  Difficult to take a picture of a window.



This is where her desk is now.  It's inside the closet.  She is very blessed to have TWO full size closets in her room.  In fact, I think she has the biggest bedroom in the house.  This works really well.  She has a task lamp that she can pull over her work.  Shelves on the left side.  A cork board on the back wall.  Books up above.  We can close the doors and never see the mess:)  This was my mom's desk from her old room.  Thanks Mom!  If you look closely you will see several of the paper projects I have made for her along with cards from me, my mom and other friends.  I love that!
There it is... a room fit for a teenager.  Nope!  She isn't one yet, but she's getting there REALLY fast:(  I am so jealous of this room.  Her bed is SUPER comfortable and that comforter is so cozy.  I often times fall asleep when I lay there at night with her talking.  She is really lucky and thanks us often for this room she loves. 
I'll try to get pictures of my son's room soon.  Still have various pictures and a vinyl phrase to put up.

Whimsy Mythical Release Blog Hop

Today is the release for the new Mythical Line of stamps, as well as, a new line of sentiments.  If you've come to my blog from Stacey's then you are on the right track.  If not, please hop back to the beginning  (Simmone's blog) and follow along for some fun and inspiration.

  The stamp I am featuring today is called, "Water Lily."  I decided to use her without the flower today.  I  wanted to put her on a box I created to hold packets of seeds.  This would be a great gift for someone you know that likes to garden or even fun for a child.  What a great way to get them involved in gardening.  I realized that I forgot to add some glitter to her wings.  All fairies should sparkle.  You can find the FREE template for this box HERE.  I decided to add a belly band to the top of my box to help keep it closed.  This went together very quickly.

Whimsy Release Sneek Peak

I wanted to show you a detailed shot of the fairy's dress.  I used a Copic Spica glitter marker.  It's hard to see the subtle shimmer.  I also used stickles on her wings.  Every fairy should sparkle.

Happy Valentine's Day



I finally made it back today to post this card for this week's Whimsy Challenge...Sweetness and Love.  You have until February 22nd to participate over at the Whimsy group at  SNR Card Universe.  Whimsy is also sponsoring the Colour Create Challenge blog as they celebrate one year of challenges.  Head on over.  The color combo is one of my favs:  Pink, White, Choc and Red.  I used that same Bo Bunny Paper again from this morning.  I think this is the cutest of all the owl stamps I have seen.  Maybe because that's probably what my hair looks like when I get up in the morning.  I also have that same expression before  my first cup of coffee:D

I had a hard time putting this card together.  I finally used the really fun sketch over at Card Patterns today.  I have also discovered the joy of crepe paper.  I can't wait to get some more and start playing around with it.  How fun and CHEAP!  My favorite things:)  Today is also the last day to enter into the Die Cuts R Us Challenge.

So Sweet Treat


Good Morning!  It's another Stamptacular Sunday Challenge today.  Priscilla would like everyone to make a PROJECT for a SWEET TREAT.  
Now I have to tell you not to look too closely at this.  I have LOTS of mistakes.  I swear that I am the only person who can be ahead of schedule and yet behind.  
I made my project this week and sent it to Priscilla on Thursday.  That's when it's due.  On Friday afternoon I checked my email and found out that I had actually made my project for the NEXT WEEK'S theme.  So, I'm ahead of schedule there.  However, I had no project for this week.  Now, I'm behind.

My entire day on Friday was meetings, Vday Parties, running kids.  Then yesterday we had the morning FULL of kid activities and my hubby decided to take us into town for various things.  I truly had no time to get my project done until this morning.  So, it's late and won't be up on the SSC blog.  

Go check out some of the really great ideas that the DT has made though.  They are pretty awesome!

Just a few quick details about my project.  I used a template by Kelleigh Ratzlaff called, "Top Heavy Box."

I created my own mat template for the front, top and sides, by marking on a piece of vellum cardstock.  That way I can keep it with my file folder to just trace and cut.  That heart was leftover from my son's valentines and I created the flower using some tissue paper and a flower die by cuttlebug.  So easy.

This is my card today that showcases more of the February Card Kit over at PaperWorks Co.  I decided to use Zoe the Tennis Player.  This is another Valentine's Day card.  My old boss and wife love to play tennis.  The inside of this card says, "Serving Up a Little Love."  Cute, huh!  And isn't she cute?

I also wanted to mention that I made the Top Five Everything But The Kitchen Sink Divas.  It is the only way I will ever be a Diva in the kitchen.  It would have to involve paper crafting.  It's another short post.  I will have a Whimsy challenge card for tomorrow along with a Stamptacular Sunday Challenge.  It's just been one of those weeks.  No need for details.  I'm just not on schedule.  Off to a basketball game now.  Then a family day.  Gotta keep the priorities straight.  Have a good Saturday.  We have SUN!  Yippee

Forgot to Post This

I completely forgot to mention in my earlier post that I have MANY SU stamps up for sale on Ebay.  While I will always be grateful to SU for introducing me to stamping, I am finding that I use them less and less.  I need to clear things out.  I will also be adding LOTS of papers, more stamps and various supplies in the next week.  I am in a purging mode.  HERE is the link if you are interested in anything.  Most are in LOTS.  Thanks for checking it out.


It's All Down Hill From Here

It's day three of my kids being home.  While I love that they are here, it's put a little damper in my "MUST GO TO TOWN AND SHOP" day.  We need food and supplies for tomorrow's class Valentine's Day party.
Does anyone else hate taking their kids shopping????  I am a slow shopper...just like everything else I do in life.  Wish me luck.  I'm sure their patience will wear thin.  I'll just remind them it's all for them.  Huh, I'm not sure guilt works on kids.

  I have a card today that I shared at the release of the new PWCO characters called,  " Zach and Zoe."  This month the release is all about sports.  I made the card for my sister's birthday tomorrow.


The inside says, "CELEBRATE!  Cause it's all down hill from here, babe."

 

Of course my card is going to be late.  I haven't had the chance to get to the Post Office this week for stamps.  I hope my sister thinks it's funny.  She deserves to get picked on.  She is getting married in a few months and I have agreed to wear a CANARY YELLOW dress.  Um, red heads, especially ME, should NOT wear yellow.  I'm going to look like a torch heading down the aisle.  Really, my hair will be flaming red against that yellow.  That's ok though, because she's my sister and that day is not about ME.  I have informed her that she will owe me for life:)  
So, I think I can give her a little ribbing as she gets one year older.

Another Post for PTI

I have another quick post today for the PTI Color Challenge.   I keep missing the deadlines so I wanted to get this posted. I chose the favorite colors of Lisa Johnson.

 
I also chose to use the sketch provided by Card Patterns this week.


  I realized after making this that my flowers are WAY too far to the right.  I think I may have to try this card again because I love everything about it except how far those flowers are off to the right.  These are totally MY colors.  This is the color combo of my bathroom and I find them so soothing.  Ahhhh!
