Important and Life Altering Message

I'm home sick today with the flu and I've been doing a bit of blog hopping.  I came upon this small little blip about taking the pledge to NOT TALK OR TEXT WHILE DRIVING

THIS was a very  moving show that Oprah did.  I took the hour today and watched the entire episode on my laptop.  It made me cry, but more importantly it made me AWARE.  I don't talk on the phone much when I drive and I never text so you might think it is easy for me to pledge.  I think if you take the time to watch those people who have lost CHILDREN, HUSBANDS, WIVES and MOTHERS it may be easy for you to pledge as well.

  My husband is a firefighter.  He has come home more than once to share that a teenager was killed and the thought was that they were texting.   I watched a guy pass us going 70MPH, in the fog, with his dome light on, texting and having his girlfriend drive from the passenger seat.  NOT much better. No phone call or message is worth a life.

Did you know that your brain will NOT ALLOW you to see anything peripherally when you are talking on the phone?  You can't see pedestrians or what another vehicle may be doing. I hope you take the time to make this pledge.  Then Spread the word Be a voice!

I hate cell phones - use mine only in case of an emergency. Guess a lot of that is due to DH being on call 24/7, and never getting a dinner out, date, movie, etc., w/o a call coming through. Anyway, sweetie - no texting or talking for me while driving!!!

I did not see the show; but, I've always been against cell phones and driving. My husband and adult children don't share my feelings. I worry about them all the time. I hope the Oprah word gets out to them. Thanks for sharing.

Great post Nikki, I hope you feel better. I am home in bed with some kind of sickness, flu maybe. It is getting worse and I can't be sick. My husband will be home from Afghanistan hopefully this weekend. I guess I will stay in, keep warm and go buy some chicken noodle soup, Hugz

Nikki,
Hope you start to feel better soon. Nothing worse than being under the weather. Ditto on the post. I don't talk on the cell phone whilst driving as I only have a one track mind and never text. I don't know how and don't want to learn. My kids do not agree with me, but I've always said they are dangerous. There is nothing so important that it can't wait a few minutes for me to pull off the side of the road. I can't begin to tell you how many times we have almost been side-swiped or rear-ended while someone else was texting or talking.
