NOTE OF LOVE

This is my Work It Girl Wednesday card. Luckily, I had made this up a few weeks ago because mojo and stamping time are non existant right now. I tried to stamp the other day, but NOTHING. I am so busy right now that I don't have the time to just sit and work something out. I am a slow stamper. I like to take my time in my craft room. Everything is rush, rush, rush this week. Today is my daughter's birthday. I was up at 4:30 making cupcakes for her to take to school. Yes, that's cutting it close, but I was gone most of yesterday. I have to say that by the end of April I am pretty sick of cake:) I can't believe I typed that. Now onto my card. I used the Gamsol Magic technique for this card. I liked it so much that I ended up making 2 that are slightly different. Here are both together:

I used some beautiful paper by Daisy D as my inspiration. The card just came together after that. While I used watercolor paper for the Gamsol technique I have found that it isn't necessary. I am really trying to work on my coloring technique. I have a new product that I haven't had time to experiment with yet. I hope I can this week sometime and then share what I have learned. So stay tuned for that. Hope you have a fabulous Wednesday!

Basic Recipe:
Stamps: Echoes of Kindness (hostess SU), Lots of Thoughts
Ink:Basic Brown
Paper: Daisy D, Pink Pirouette, Mellow Moss, Water Color
Other: Cuttlebug, Scribbles Swirls Sizzlet (SU), Pearl Brad, ribbon (Joann's), paper piercer, Signo white gel pen, flowers (target dollar spot), Scalloped Circle, 1 1/4, 1 3/8 circle punches, dimensionals, Prismacolor Pencils, Pure Color Pencils, baby oil

A Blessed Weekend

Sorry, no card today. I wanted to share some pictures from our weekend with family. My son had his First Communion yesterday. He did so well and looked SOOO handsome. His daddy helped him get dressed. It was really wonderful to have family here. We miss them being so far away. So here are some pictures of the beautiful day we had.

At the church

His proud sister:)

Is any party complete without the hula hoop?

The entire clan

Our family picture

The funny story of the day? You know in this family there always is at least one. This time there are two.

My dad had to go get something in town. He just threw on a tshirt and dress shoes with no socks. The store didn't have what he needed so he had to go to the next town. In the meantime his watch had stopped. He thought he still had an hour before he needed to be at the church. I had to call him to tell him to hurry up. He ended up having to drive straight from the store to the church dressed in a tshirt, no socks, dress shoes and dress pants:) His nice clothes ended up hanging on the closet door the whole day. He wasn't very happy. It will be a funny story to razz him about later though.

Story 2: After everyone had left my husband received a call from his Lieutenant and they were discussing work. I hear him say," Hey Russ, hold on a minute." Then he screams, "Hey!" as he opens the door and I hear the ice cream man going by. He was trying to flag down the ice cream guy. I'm sure the guy on the phone thought," This is who runs our shift? Someone who gets that excited over the ice cream man?!" What's more funny is that when the ice cream man stops my husband tells his lieutenant that he has to go:) Now I have to explain. My husband isn't that fond of the ice cream guy, but my son has been trying to catch the ice cream man for about 2 weeks and keeps missing him. It has become very important around here to get that guy to stop since he drives really fast by our house. It worked yesterday. We can finally resume life as we know it:)

Thanks for listening to my family ramblings today. I hope to be back tomorrow with a Mojo Monday card.

Charmed, I'm Sure!

THAT is the theme over at Stamptacular Sunday Challenge today. Use a charm somewhere on your card. Now, I have to admit, I am "charm challenged." I have such a hard time getting those little things to hang on my card. This one was threaded with the ribbon and then I looped it around the bow and adhered that way. My card fits perfectly for the events going on in my life today. My son is making his First Communion this morning. I am very proud of him. So this is his card. It is actually a very simple card. Didn't take me long at all. My stamps are mostly from Verve. I love the saying. I think it is perfect for this occasion.

Trust in the Lord
with all your heart
and lean not on your own

I hope you can join us this week for a chance to win something. Make sure you visit the girls on the Design Team to see all their wonderful work. They are located on the left side of my blog. I will be checking in through the week to see all of your beautiful creations.

You Know You're Up Early When....

....You hear the rooster crow. Just heard one and I don't even live in the country. Dang, that rooster's got some pipes! I have a busy weekend ahead of me and I really wanted to get at least one card up today. But first, I wanted to share something. I subscribe to a COLOURlovers blog. I don't usually get to read it. I decided this week to either start reading the posts or to unsubscribe. I read something yesterday that I really thought was worthy of sharing. I love art. When it has a message, it's even more beautiful to me. Do you recycle? I hope you take a minute to click HERE and see how one man is trying to make change by letting us SEE what we do to our world. I hope you can pass this on to someone you know. Art is beautiful. Even in the form of garbage. BTW, I will continue reading this blog.

Stepping off my soapbox to present a card to you. This is for the Mojo Monday Sketch.
I changed a few things. I also used some of my new Verve Stamps.

I just wanted to point out that gorgeous ric rac. It is actually brown and I got it for 50 cents a yard at Joann's. No you can't find it there anymore...I took it ALL:) There wasn't much left. I also got to use my new sewing machine. While it isn't as nice as my old one it works nicely for crafts. One thing I didn't realize when I bought it is that there is no light source by the needle. That could pose a problem. I think I will have to move my location. I want to make a mini purse and that will be the true test of whether I like it or not. I was just so happy to be able to sew a card again. Oh, my flowers on this card are cut out and added with dimensionals and then laquered with Crystal Effects. Here are the details:

Stamps: Floral Symphony( verve), Noteworthy, Sanded (SU)
Ink: Cert. Celery, Tim Holtz Distress ink, Choc Chip, Tango Tangerine
Paper: K&C Co., So Saffron, Cert Celery, Vanilla
Other: Circle Scallop Nesties, distress tool, ric rac, So Saffron Marker, Crystal Effects, dimensionals, flower(The Paper Studio), Orange brad??? Janome Sew Mini

Have a great Saturday!

Yes, I'm a Slacker

I have been really lazy at posting this week. I have been stamping, but it is for Designer Team stuff. So, nothing to show. Well, I do have one picture to show.

This is what $100 of happiness looks like:)

Yeah!!! My FREE stamps from Verve came on Tues and I literally screamed with delight. So, I will have stuff to show on Saturday I hope. I am in the process of my MOJO Monday Sketch. It just isn't complete. We are having a family party here this weekend and I have been busy prepping for that. I have to cook and that is SOOO draining on my energy, dude. Blek! Party prep is NOT my forte. Don't you like how I went from surfer dude to sophisticated in just 2 sentences? I wear many hats. Ok, enough babble. I also wanted to show you why I should have a card on Sat.

This was waiting for me when I came home today. It's my new Janome Mini Sew!

I can't wait to sew....a card that is:) My old sewing machine broke last week. Well, it wasn't really old. Oonly less than 2 years . Of course, I couldn't find a receipt for it and it was going to cost more to fix than I actually bought it for. So, I decided to get this little baby. I am so excited. It was only about $67 with tax and shipping. I got it through Home Depot and it is supposed to sew craft project and small sewing tasks. That is all this girl needs. I read up on it and have seen many crafter's say they love theirs. It's only 5 lbs. I am hoping to head to the basement tonight and do some crafting. For now, I'm off to get my kids, then dinner, bake a cake, cut up strawberries and spend some time with my husband. I've missed him! So, I should be back here tomorrow with something worthwhile. Also, don't forget to check my blog on Sunday. It's CHALLENGE DAY!

UGH! Deleted my name AGAIN.

Happy Earth Day!!!!

I'm so excited about my card today. It is FULL of somewhat "recycled" things. I have several elements on here that were laying around my desk from projects that didn't get used. That "friend" rub on has been on my desk, with no protective back, for probably 5 months. I finally decided I needed to use it or throw it out because it was collecting debris on the back side. So I cut my paper and put that down first. That way there was no changing my mind. The card just kind of transformed from that. The green ribbon and separate green bow were recycled. Also, that white flower with the green Kaiser pearl was a "reject" from another project. So not only do I have green on my card, I went green and reused instead of throwing out. There's not a lot of stamping on this card. Just those dots from my new Build a Bouquet set that I got for soooo cheap! $5 over at My Favorite Things. It is back up to the original price now though. Sorry for the tease:) Also, my charm matches way better than the photo suggests. I really like the look of charms, but I have such a hard time figuring out how to attach them. Any suggestions?

This card is my Work It Girl Wednesday card AND for the OCC challenge this week. It has been so long since I participated over there. The challenge is to recycle on your card.

Recipe:
Stamps: Build a Bouquet (MFT)
Ink: Versamark
Paper: Rose Red Textured
Other: Ribbon, Kaiser Lush Pearls, Paper Studio Flowers, Lace (flower), Charm ( Joann's), SU SAB rubons

Hope you have a great Earth Day. The kids and I are heading to the mall to get my daughter's ears pierced and then to Dorothy Lane Market for some "killer brownies." Yummo! Not very "earthy", but fun!

My Sweet Little Boy

So many challenges, so little time:) That's how I've been feeling lately. Not enough time to stamp for me for some reason. Last week I was blog hopping and found the Bubble Bin over at My Favorite Things. The Bubble Bin changes each week so check it out. Gotta tell ya' that I got some really great deals. When I was perusing the stamps I saw this one called Cuddle Up Carter. He reminds me of my son. Dalton has hair that sticks up like that when it gets too long. We call it his "cock-a-doodle-doo." It is usually untameable. Dalton also has a blue pair of Star Wars PJ's that he got for Christmas. They are definitely his favorite. AND.. I love frogs...not REAL frogs...just cute frogs....that don't move. So I had to get this set. This sketch is for Jen Del Muro's SFYTT. She has blog candy this week. Try it out!

I am not happy with my coloring. Still trying to work on that. I used watercolor pencils and a blender pen. Practice is definitely what I need. Plus a few tutorials wouldn't hurt. I have to say that acrylic stamps are becoming very fun for me. I was able to create the wording around that oval with my acrylic block. I could also slightly curve the sentiments onto the block. So cool. Not such a great job on spacing, but Dalton won't care. He's been having a rough time lately and I think cuddling up is just what he needs.

Recipe:
Stamps: Cuddle Up Carter
Ink: Brilliance Black, Tango Tangerine, Cert Celery
Paper: DCWV Citrus Pack, So Saffron, Whisper White
Other: Oval Nesties, Cuttlebug, Paper Piercer, Inksentials White Gel Pen, Oval punch, brads, button (Walmart), White taffetta ribbon, dimensionals, watercolor pencils, blender pen, embroidery floss

Have a great Tuesday!

Stamptacular Sunday Challenge #3

Happy Sunday! As I type this I can hear the birds chirping. That make mes happy. I am so glad to finally be able to open my windows and let the fresh air in. Yesterday was beautiful here. Got all of our mulch put into place. I'm not sore yet, but that will probably hit later on today....as I'm serving coffee at the school's Ladies Day:) I may have to head over and get a massage at one of the booths. AHHH! Oh YES! You came here for a card and a challenge.

Well here ya go! The Stamptacular Sunday Challenge for today is to use Black and White plus ONE other color. This is what got me on that black and white kick. Head on over to the blog and then make sure you visit each Design Team member and spread them a little love for all their hard work. They have some beautiful samples. I hope you can play along in this challenge. You have until next Saturday to upload your card to an online site and link it back to the Stamptacular Sunday Challenge blog using Mr Linksy. Sometimes he can be difficult...like most men...so keep trying if you have some trouble. He ends up behaving:)

I used several fun elements on my card. That green dotted ribbon just called to me at Walmart. I HAD to get it. You also need to look closely at the black cardstock. It is black embossed with Pretty Petals background stamp. I created the center of my flower using several different punches and then topping it off with pearls. I also used a product called Shimmerz on my flower. This stuff is lots of fun and dries relatively quick. It's hard to see in the photo though:(

Here is a close up of the flower and pearls. I think that my black embossing powder may be going bad. Does that happen? I've been having problems with it becoming dry and flaking off in spots after using my heat gun. I'm going to get some new and see if that is the case. Thanks for visiting me today! Hope to see some of your creations over the week.

Recipe:
Stamps:Say It with Scallops, Inkadinkado Chelsea Sentiments, Pretty Petals BG
Ink: Versamark, Black Brilliance
Paper: Basic Black, Whisper White, Gable Green
Other: Pretties Kit, Pearls (Kaiser), 1 1/4 & 1 3/8" Circle punches, Scallop Circle Punch, Shimmerz, Gable Green marker, Black EP, Embossing Buddy, Ribbon ( Walmart)

Yeah!!! I Got To Stamp:)

I got to stamp a bit this morning and finish 2 of the 4 cards I need for the Verve Release Party Challenges this coming Friday. So excited! Here is the first one:

This card makes me so happy. Not just because of the cheery colors, but because of the fact that most of this card was comprised of scraps of stuff I had laying on my table. It came together pretty quickly. I altered the sketch a bit....ok, quite a bit:)

Recipe: Stamps: Great Friend Ink: Real Red Paper: Just Dreamy DP, Real Red, Kiwi Kiss, Whisper White Other: Paper Studio Flowers, Kaiser Lush Pearls, Lots of Tags Sizzlet, Leaf Sizzlet, Dimensionals, Buttons, Ric Rac

Next up is a card that looks pretty involved. I guess it is, but it seemed to come together very easily for me. That is usually not the case. I am a slow stamper and it takes me forever to put together an idea. So when it comes together so nicely I like to rejoice in it:) Saying a big old ALLELUIA!

Can you tell I am so excited about this card? LOL. I have another masculine card to add to my very small collection. Nothing girlie about this one at all. If you look closely you will see that I used chipboard for the negative star image in the circle and then took that piece that popped out and used it on my "buckle." Here is a close up:

I painted the small star with acrylic paint that resembles soft sky. The circle wit the negative image was first painted white. When dry I "smooshed" ( yes, the technical term) it in my Vanilla craft ink. I let that dry for just a bit and while still tacky I buffed some distress ink on. When that was completely dry I stamped the sentiment in Choc Chip craft ink....while holding my breath. There is really no way that I can think of to use a stampamajig on a chipboard circle. Luckily my rejoicing paid off because God helped me to stamp that baby pretty much right on target:) ( I know that God is much too busy to aid me in my stamp room but just work with me here ok?) You can look HERE to see how I made that punched medallion that is behind the chipboard circle.

Now onto the details and then out the door for me. It is BEE-U-TEE-FUL here. Need some fresh air:)

Stamps: Starring You, Weathered, Small Sayings, Think Happy Thoughts
Ink: Close to Cocoa, Choc Chip Craft, Tim Holtz Distress ink, Vanilla Craft
Paper: Choc Chip, Soft Sky, 29th Street Market DP,
Other: SU chipboard, Twill off white is SU and Choc is from Joann's, distress tool, scalloped circle punch, 1 1/4" circle punch, hodgepodge hardware SU

Thanks for all the comments you have been leaving me. Makes my day! Hope you have a great one.

Bubble Bin

No card today....just too busy. I wanted to share the great sale that is going on over at My Favorite Things though. Each week they put something new in the Bubble Bin. They have some sets that are pretty inexpensive. Go here to check out the bin. I hope to be back tomorrow with FOUR cards to share for the Verve Release party. Crossing my fingers:)

WIGW...Another Black and White

Before I forget I want to let you all know that you can go HERE for details on the Verve release party. You can also get the details to enter the contest to win FREE Verve Stamps! I really hope I get to stamp over the next 2 days so I can have a chance.

My card today is for my WIGW card. I made it a few weeks ago and have just never posted it.

This card is a long and skinny one:) I've been having fun with those lately. It uses the SU Curly Label punch in the background with some faux stitching. I also added a center to the flowers by punching out a small black circle and then adding white dots to it. I had a really hard time with my ribbon on this one. I finally settled on combining several ribbons. Still not sure if I like it.

Here are the details:
Stamps: Little Layers Plus (retired hostess)
Ink: Versamark
Other: Prismacolor pencils, baby oil, black EP, various ribbon, corner rounder, black marker, stickles, Signo white gel pen, paper piercer, swiss dot EF, cuttlebug, hole punch, dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope the sun is shining where you are. We have had rain. We are going to do a "sun dance" like the Indians used to do for rain so my son can have ball practice tonight. Wish us luck!

Brads, Buttons, No Stamping....OH MY!

Happy Monday! I really wish that the Monday after Easter was an observed holiday. I just think everyone should have that day to rest from all the Easter festivities. I hope you all enjoyed your day! We had some fun here. I'll show pictures at the end of my post for those that would like to look.

If you didn't get a chance to check out the Stamptacular Sunday Challenge you have all week to participate. So make sure you check it out.

My card for today is for the Weekend Sketch Challenge that Beate does each week. I loved the simplicity of the sketch that you can view on Laurie's blog HERE.

This card has NO stampin whatsoever. I felt like my rub ons have been very neglected, so I used them instead of a stamp. I love the color combo of pink and kraft. Very simple card to do and I used some leftover pieces from other cards that didn't work out. LOVE THAT!

Recipe: Paper: Retired SU DP, White, Kraft Other: Flowers from Joann's, Making Memories brad, various ribbon by Offray (walmart), Buttons from the Paper Studio, Scallop Edge punch, MS Lace border punch, embroidery floss, A Perfect Day rub ons (SU), glue dots, paper piercer, Inksentials white gelpen

UPDATED: I have been wanting to share this story for a few weeks now and keep forgetting. Since it's an "egg story" this is the perfect place to share.

When my mom moved in with us we had this conversation:

Me: "Hey Mom, we buy farm fresh eggs. So sometimes you may find an egg that has a little bit of dirt on it, ok?"

Mom: "Uh, Nikki, I don't think that's dirt."

Me: "Uh, what, huh? OOHHH(lightbulb!).....EEWWWWW!!!"

Sometimes "IGNORANCE REALLY IS BLISS:)"

Now onto the Easter pictures:

Easter Egg coloring made my kids a bit crazy this year

And the craziness just continued on into Easter Day:)

The great news is that they got along better than they have in about 3 weeks. Spring Break was really good at rejuvenating all of us.

This is a picture of a boy who wants to be just like his dad. They have relatively matching FD sweatshirts. Dalton followed his dad around all day...helping to cut grass and then blow the grass clippings off the driveway. We did get a chance to play a little bball when all the yard work was done.

Hope you have a fun day!

Something to Share

I read a story last year around Easter on Julie Buhler's blog HERE. It was something that I have always remembered reading. Something that made me think about Easter in a different way. I hope you take a minute to read the story I am so happy she shared one year ago. It is a great reminder.

Happy Easter!

I hope you all have a very BLESSED Easter today!

Don't worry if you can't participate in our challenge today over at the STAMPTACULAR SUNDAY CHALLENGE blog. You have all week to make something and link it using Mr. Linksy. The challenge today is to make a card with a BIRD on it.

Remember how I said there would be a lot of black on my blog over the next little bit? So it begins:)

Here is my sample:I added a few details to my card that you may not notice if you don't look closely. Each of the flowers has a teeny, tiny black rhinestone that I got from Taylor's store HERE. Ohhh, she's having a special deal right now! Go check it out! I really love these little things. They can add the perfect touch to a card. I also added detail to the black embossed bird by outlining some of the flowers with a Signo white gel pen. The last little detail is on the black cardstock at the bottom. I scored every half inch on a diagonal using my fiskar's cutter (using the scoring blade) to create the diamond pattern. The top scallop was created using my SU corner rounder punch.

Here is a close up of the details:

Here are the deets: Stamps: Always, Thoughts and Prayers (SU) Ink: Versamark, Black Brilliance Paper: Whispter White, Basic Black, Basic Gray Other: Oval Nestabilities (classic and scallop), corner rounder, cuttlebug, Signo Gel Pen, Tiny Twinkles Rhinestones, Black EP, Grey taffetta ribbon, dimensionals

I have one last tip. I really like the Thoughts and Prayers set from SU. However, it is a double mounted set and I'm not so fond of that. So, my solution???

I have designated this acrylic block for my tack and peel. I left the paper on the back of each foam cushioned stamp and I simply adhere, stamp and then peel the stamp off. They all lay loose in my box. I'm becoming quite the fan of acrylic blocks. Hope this is helpful to someone else. The other solution is to buy more blocks. For me this was a cheaper solution that could be used for other sets as well.

Now, don't forget to check out all the great samples the girls on the design team have made. Their blogs are conveniently located on the left side of my blog. Leave em a little love too, ok? Hope you can play along with us! I love to check out everyone else's work....there's great inspiration out there:)

Have a very blessed day and thanks for checking in!

Simple Card SATURDAY

Good Morning! What a beautiful Easter Weekend we are going to have! Nothing much planned at the Schmaltz Family Home. We will go to church and then have a relaxing day of just being together. Hopefully we can play a little ball so my son can try out his new bat and glove:)

If you remember I have been trying to do a really simple card once a month. I usually do these on Sunday, but SUNDAY is the STAMPTACULAR SUNDAY CHALLENGE now. Even though most of you may have plans for tomorrow, I hope that you can "hop" in to see what all the girls on the design team have conjured up for the challenge. No worries if you can't. You have until next Saturday to come up with your own creation and link it to the blog. I hope you join us and play along!

This card uses some of my leftover Sweet Slumber Party DP that I used on my Mojo card this week. This paper is very thick and textured. It's fun to play with. I have to tell you though that the first time I cut it I feel a little nervous. Do you ever get like that when using special paper? Maybe what's so intimidating is that it's called "SPECIALTY Paper?" But I have now used one whole piece. Patting myself on the back:) This is a really simple card given a bit of pop with brads and dimensionals.

Stamps: Inkadinkado, Verve's Jeremiah 29:11
Ink: Soft Sky, Basic Brown,
Paper: Sweet Slumber Party, Vanilla, Soft Sky, DCWV Text. Off White (base)
Other: dimensionals, vintage brads

See ya tomorrow for the challenge!

Pacific Butterfly

I can't believe it! I have TWO posts today. I wasn't planning that. I checked Kristina's blog after posting this morning and she had the color inspiration posted. This was one of the quickest cards I have done in a while. I think it only took me about 20 minutes and that's because I had a hard time getting the little leaves to pop out once I die cut them....grrr. Pacific Point is one of my least favorite cardstocks, but I really like the ink. Yeah, figure that one out?! So here is my quickie card.I must say that the new set called GREAT FRIEND in the new SU mini is a "must have" set. Very fun and not very expensive. I added tiny Kaiser pearls that I got from Taylor's store to the middle of the iridescent ice embossed butterfly. I think I've mentioned before that Iridescent Ice is also a "must have." Email me if you'd like to order any, ok? I also wanted you to know that you will be seeing a lot of BLACK on my blog in the coming weeks. No worries, I haven't gone "Gothic" or anything. I just really like the POP that black can give to a card or even simple elegance. Remember when brown was the new black? Well, BLACK is BACK Baby!

Deets:
Stamps: Great Friend
Ink: Pacific Point, Versamark, Rose Red
Paper: Textured SU Black, Kiwi Kiss, Whisper White
Other: Cuttlebug, SU Sizzlets Lots of Tags and Little Leaves, Iridescent Ice EP, Kaiser Pearls, SU Grosgrain 5/8" ribbon, Vintage brads, dimensionals, MS glue pen

Hugs!
